Yorktown is one of the most historically significant towns in America. Founded in 1691 as a port for shipping goods to Great Britain, Yorktown is best known as the site of General Cornwallis' surrender to General George Washington, effectively ending the American Revolution against England. It also served as a major port during the Civil War.
